               When I feel depressed...

Part I

Our moods are like a roller coaster going up and down. One moment we feel as if we're on cloud nine, but the next we're totally in the dumps. When we are happy, we tend to share the happiness with people around us. However, when we feel depressed, everyone has his or her own way of dealing with it.

For me , singing at a KTV with friends is the best way to get rid of my depression. By singing out loud, I express my emotions and pretend I am someone else. This has always done he trick for me. Many times, the songs I sang were so sad that I couldn't help but cry. But after I wiped away the tears, I found that my negative feelings were gone as well. There are many ways to keep depression at bay, but the point is to have a way of dealing with it when it sets in.

Part II

Last Thursday, I had a quarrel with my best friend. On top of this, I did poorly on my mid-term exam. My heart sank and I felt the whole world was going against me.

The unpleasant feeling lasted until last Saturday. Instead of staying at home, I decided to leave all my worries behind and get close to nature by going to the beach. Out in the warmth of the fall afternoon, I felt more clear-minded. With calmer emotions I worked out the problem between my friend and me, and I became more focused on my studies. Being around nature really works wonders for me when I feel depressed. With this knowledge, I know that I can always turn to the great outdoors for comfort and real peace of mind during my times of depression.

                                                 My Motto

Part I

Once in a while, we may feel frustrated when we fail to achiever the goals in our lives. Some people may lose their self-confidence and want to escape from reality. In my opinion, no one is perfect and capable of doing everything they want. When we face difficulties, what we need are words of strength or a motto to lift ourselves up.

One of my favorite mottos is, "Practice makes perfect." This motto helps me to a great extent whether I'm trying to solve a complicated math problem or undertaking a new job. I believe that there is no shame in failing. You'll never know when you'll succeed unless you keep trying. In the process of practicing, we learn and ultimately become successful. The most important thing is that we have to have faith in ourselves and remember not to give up easily.

-fail to...

-incapable,incapability

-to lift up=to cheer up=encourage (lift(n.)

-extent(n.)

-ultimately=finally

-some people may的may音調上揚

-when we的we音調稍降

-weight lifting 舉重,wedge (n.)寬度

-what's your weight/height?

-to such a extent到達...程度

Part II

When I was growing up, my grandfather used to tell me that I should live my life by the golden rule, "What you do not want others do to you, do not do to others." These words meant little to me until a experience opened my eyes and changed my life.

It was late last year and I was waiting outside my school for my friends to come out. They didn't see me, but I could overhear their conversation. The girl that I thought was my best friend was telling a secret about me to my other friends. I left without them seeing me. Even thought I was hurt by their conversation, I realized that I had been guilty of this same behavior in the past. I had spoken ill of my friends behind their backs and now the tables had been turned. It was then that the words Confucius said over a thousand years ago finally made sense.

-live my life by本著...過日子

- What you do not want others do to you, do not do to others.

-late last year去年年底

-guilty (adj.) ,guilt (n.)

-speak ill of one's back 在背後說人閒(壞)話

- the tables had been turned

-it was then 就是那時

-make sence有意義
